Welcome, to the brand new blog which I will tell you about application that help teachers to make interactive exercise for their students.

Hot Potatoes is an application to make exercises.
The function of this app is to help teacher use interactive activity in her teaching and learning activity. This app is free and everyone can download the app in this link.

In Hot Potatoes, teacher have 6 options to make exercise. There are
  • JQuiz - Program to make multiple-choice exercise.
  • JMix - Program to make a sentence in an order exercise. 
  • JCross - Program to make crossword exercise. 
  • JMatch - Program to make matching exercise.
  • JCloze - Program to make an essay exercise.
  • The Masher - Program that used to compile all the exercises in Hot Potatoes.
JQiuz
Step 1 - Open Hot Potatoes and choose JQuiz

Step 2 - You will see like this.



Step 3 - Write the name of the exercise on Title.

Step 4 - Write down the first question on Q1, if you want to give more question you can click the up arrow. 

Step 5 - Write the answer on answer square. There are only 4 options you can use. 

Step 6 - Feedback is used to give information for the chosen answer. 

Step 7 - Put tick on the square for the correct answer. 

Here is the example

Step 8 - Then, save the exercise. 

JMix
Step 1 - Open Hot Potatoes and choose JQuiz

Step 2 - You will see like this.

Step 3 - Write down your title exercise.

Step 4 - Write down the sentence you want to arrange. Jumbled  it and write word by word. 

Step 5 - Arrange the jumble words into correct sentences on "Alternate Sentences" row. You can write more than one answer.

Step 6 - Save the exercise.

JCross
Step 1 - Open Hot Potatoes and choose JQuiz

Step 2 - You will see like this.
Step 3 - Write down the answer of your question whether down or cross. 
Step 4 - Click "Add Clues". Here you will see 

Step 5 - Add some clues to help your students to answers the question. 

Step 6 - Save the exercise.

JMatch
Step 1 - Open Hot Potatoes and choose JMatch, you will see like this. 

Step 2 - Writer down the title of the exercise. 

Step 3 - Write down the words on the left as an ordered items. If you want more than five you can click the up arrow. 

Step 4 - Write down the answer on the right as the match items from the left box. It also in order, do not jumbled the answer by your own. 

Step 5 - Do not put any tick mark on the Fix row. You just have to put tick mark if you do not want the answer be jumbled.

Step 6 - Save the exercise. 

JCloze
Step 1 - Open Hot Potatoes and click JMatch.
You will see like this

Step 2 - Write down the title of the exercise.

Step 3 - Write down all the questions and answers on the blank space. 

Step 4 - Block the answer and click "Gap". You will see this.
Clue - you can give some clue to help your students predict the answer. 
Alternative correct answers - probably your answer has similar meaning which has different word so you can put the alternative answers here. 
Then, OK.

Step 5 - If you want to delete the gap, just click on "Delete Gap". 

Step 6 - Save the exercise. 

The Masher
Step 1 - Open Hot Potatoes and click JMatch.
You will see like this

Step 2 - Click "Add file". Then put all your exercises from Hot Potatoes here. 

Step 3 - Choose where is the file will be placed on.

Step 4 - "Build unit". Then, your exercise will be combined.
